One of the greater challenges in freelance photography is getting information on what can/cannot be
photographed. Additionally, depending on the type of shoot, additional registrations are usually
required prior to a trip. This page attempts to answer some of these questions and will be updated as
new links are found. If other photographers wish to add their links, please feel free to
email me.  Your
contributions will be both acknowledged and listed out either within the applicable reference category.

JAPAN
  • I have been unable to find specific guidelines at this time but the general consensus appears
to be an open mindedness toward photographers. However, erring on the side of caution and
common sense is always helpful when one is unsure – especially around military installations
or police headquarters.  And ask permission first when photographing strangers. It not only
shows a sense of manners but it may even open up other possibilities. Here are some general
links: Photo Guide to Japan & Photo Net Travel - Japan

PHOTO PERMITS
  • Scott Kelby (editor and publisher of Photoshop User Magazine) has an interesting blog post
    on obtaining permits in general.

REFERENCE LINKS
  • PhotoPermit.org's reference page has links to changing regulations, permit requirements and
other useful FYI articles on what to do with an overzealous security guard.
